Luc Vrolijks Urban Progress is built around the expertise of Luc Vrolijks. Luc is a prominent urban design professional in the Netherlands, his home country. He has a broad international experience in urban design, strategic planning and scenario development. Over the last 12 years, Luc Vrolijks has worked as project manager and lead designer in over 70 comprehensive urban design projects in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Germany. He has helped develop new interactive planning and design strategies and has implemented these along a range of scales and time frames. Through these projects, he has become a senior urban design expert who (1) is able to apply urban design as a tool in a complex setting of parties and interests; (2) has extensive knowledge of plans and proposals around the world; and (3) is able to work on urban design in an open and communicative setting with communities. Sustainable urban development and the implications of climate change are the center of attention Luc Vrolijks for a number of years. In the early 1990's, he worked for the United Nations to design the conceptual frameworks for the mitigation of natural disasters. These approaches are currently applied to the challenge to adapt societies to changing climate. In recent years, sustainable development, water management and renewable energy concepts are at the core of the work of Luc Vrolijks. He has worked on experimental design competitions as well as on detailed urban design studies. Luc has worked on a range of prominent regional plans and strategy studies. This experience can be provided to studies and plans like the PlaNYC. Urban Progress Design can provide strategic design studies, develop scenarios and contribute to interactive design processes. Luc started Urban Progress Studio Amsterdam in 2006, after serving as the director for the Amsterdam based office of Urhahn Urban Design for ten years. Luc established Urban Progress Design in New York early 2009. Luc is the principal for both offices. He works closely with Anisha Sawhney Mittal as the senior planner in the New York office and Age Fluitman as the lead urban designer in the Amsterdam office.
